My current goals and projects, as of February 2026:
-
This goes without saying, but finish this semester. Ideally I also maintain my GPA, although this has proven to be the toughest semester yet. Currently, I'm taking Advanced SQL, NoSQL, Microprocessors and Embedded Systems, Application Security, Windows Network Programming, and Science Fiction as an elective. It has been quite the workload! I am enjoying the challenge, though. I'm learning more being exposed to so many topics at once.
-
Revamp my portfolio. Right now, my portfolio has been slowly transitioning away from my old goals of seeking an advanced degree in bioinformatics and focusing on bioinformatics toward my current web application and web design career. This hasn't been the first time my portfolio changed; it started out as an art portfolio! A common thread between all of them is design - from graphic design, to data visualization, and now web design. I've always been a visual person.

Make a dent in my reading backlog. I have a laundry list of books I want to get to, from science fiction classics like Heretics of Dune (Frank Herbert) to books that are more focused for my career like Don't Make Me Think (Steve Krug). I also have a lot of PDFs I want to read, particularly articles such as Programming as Theory Building (Peter Naur), a ton of scientific journal articles I've saved thanks to my University of Waterloo login, and my endless Instapaper backlog. Ever since I've picked up my reading habit again a few years ago, I've been reading a lot more. I really think reading more books and articles is important to really get a deep dive in topics beyond short videos and posts on social media. I want to stop adding articles to read later and simply read what's already in my backlog.

Pay more attention to my health. Particularly, I am working on improving my posture, and I am looking into standing desks. I have already incorporated a regular walking habit, and I want to stop neglecting my health in favour of overworking myself. Much easier said than done, of course, but I can't do my best work when I'm sleep-deprived, under-eating, and out of shape. I suspect this goal will be evergreen on my list.
